Molehill Studio
UX/UI Design • Mobile App • 2.5 Week Sprint
A creativity-focused community app designed for Moleskine Smart Notebook users.
The Opportunity
How might we create a more inspiring online space for creatives?
Existing platforms feel overwhelming.
Creatives want more intentional communities.
Users associated notebooks with inspiration and self-expression.
Research
What we learned through user interviews:
Users want greater control over what they share and see.
Many felt pressure to perform on social media.
Personalization and privacy increased comfort and trust.
Onboarding ensured personalization of content feed and app experience.
We learned that a strong onboarding process is critical to a personalized feed.
Molehill Studio featuring a strong onboarding experience that builds connection and inspiration by centering:
The Solution
Personalized Feed
Users customize interests during onboarding.
Creative Community
Users discover like-minded creatives in a more intentional environment.
Privacy Settings
Visibility settings allow users to shape their experience.
Iteration Process
User feedback → design changes
Users said:
“Too much information at once and I am still not sure what this app is about. “
“I want to get a glimpse of what I am signing up for. This is taking a while. ”
We changed:
Removed Connecting Accounts, added About page and skip option, condensed notebook usage categories
Added app description and content previews, moved privacy settings to splash screen
We used Figma Make to rapidly prototype ideas, experiment with branding, and accelerate iteration. I later translated these explorations into the final high-fidelity prototype.
Prototyping with AI
We focused on designing and refining the onboarding experience, since research showed personalization and user control were critical to creating a more intentional social app for creatives.
